«THE GENERAL TENDENCY, SINCE THE INVENTION OF THE MEDIUM, HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO SEEK, BY ALL MEANS OF OPTICS AND CHEMISTRY, AN IMAGING SURFACE AS HOMOGENEOUS AND AS DETAILED AS POSSIBLE. PRECISION REMAINED THE ESSENTIAL OBJECT.»

LOOK AT THE IMAGES OF JEAN-CLAUDE LEMAGNY

(EXCERPT FROM CORRESPONDENCE)

"THE METAMORPHOSIS IS PROFOUND, I KNOW THAT IT IS THE NATURE OF CHRYSALIDS TO TRANSFORM INTO SOMETHING COMPLETLY DIFFERENT, BUT NOT TO THAT POINT!

I LIKED THESE ENTOMOLOGICAL WINDOWS, THESE CRACKLES OF LIGHT THAT MULTIPLIED IN FACETS AND RAYS. MOMENTS OF A CRYSTALLINE FERMENTATION AND HERE IS THE OPEN SEA OF THE MOUNTAIN: WHAT A BLOOM! NO MORE SPACES THAT REDOUBLE THEMSELVES BUT OPEN IT.

THESE NEW IMAGES SEEM TO ALMOST ALWAYS BE DOMINATED BY A BIG CURVE. MY FAVORITE, THE ENTRANCE TO THE CAVE, SHOWS IT OBVIOUSLY. BUT THIS INVISIBLE ORB IS FOUND IN ALMOST ALL COMPOSITIONS, LIKE THE IMMENSE ARCH OF A CELESTIAL BRIDGE, VAULTED TO INFINITY.

About

Alexandre Jeser is a French analog photographer based in the South of France.  He worked with a 8x10 inch camera for many years, in color photography.

While working with a 20x24 inch camera Jeser came up with an idea to show the landscape in a size that was deemed impossible.

Using a large camera is not for Jeser a trip in nostalgia or in the past of photography. « Using my 20x24 camera is only the best way to have all the details in the landscape in one second, but my work is in the feeling of contemporary photography.  I need to work very slowly, that is necessary for the camera, i can understand the landscape and the light all around me.»
